What this guide covers

Business vs profile accounting scope

On the Overview tab (or Software tab), Accounting scope can be:

  • Business-wide — one shared set of categories, tax rates, and classes
  • Per business profile — separate lists per profile; members only see profiles they can access

Scope affects expense categories, tax rates, payment sources, and some bill/PO pickers throughout the app.

Permissions model

Accounting uses granular keys (examples):

  • accounting_settings_access — enter Accounting area
  • accounting_bills_access — vendor bills tab
  • accounting_tax_rates_access — tax rates
  • accounting_expense_categories_access — expense categories
  • accounting_payroll_settings_access — payroll configuration
  • accounting_user_wages_access — wage visibility and edits

Owner/Admin bypass all keys. Custom roles need explicit grants for each tab they should use.
